SHOP SCAN SAVE (SSS) is the largest retailer-integrated mobile savings scheme in the UK. The scheme was designed to harness mobile to bring together shoppers, FMCGs, and retailers, aligning their respective interests whilst providing benefits to all parties. Shoppers benefit from relevant, personalised offers delivered straight to their phone. FMCGs are empowered to securely target personalised offers and content to shoppers, with guaranteed basket validation at the point of sale, and real-time campaign reporting. Participating retailers benefit from additional footfall and loyalty, and are automatically reimbursed for discounts provided to shoppers.

The scheme is operated through PayPoint’s electronic transaction network, covering an estate of 29,000 convenience stores across the UK, including The Co-op, SPAR, Tesco Express, One Stop, ASDA, Martin McColl’s, Londis, Budgens, and independent stores.

The solution

The SHOP SCAN SAVE scheme runs on Mobilize’s patented M-CRMTM platform, which utilises a single shopper ID (numeric/barcode/NFC) both to identify the shopper at the point of sale, and to securely redeem any number of offers. This reduces checkout times compared to loyalty card scanning and manual entry of offer/voucher codes.

The Mobilize platform is unique in validating all offers against the purchase basket at SKU level, in real time. This removes the risk of mis – and mal redemption, and ensures that customer insight is captured at the most granular level possible—the SKU level.

“SHOP SCAN SAVE® gives us the opportunity to show our support to convenience retailers by helping to drive footfall and impulse purchases. It also allows us to connect with our consumers directly with personalised offers through modern, relevant technology” (Dawn Reid, Shopper Marketing Executive, Arla Foods).

“At Danone our goal is to work closely with the UK retail sector to develop new initiatives that help drive the awareness of yogurt amongst convenience shoppers. We see working with SHOP SCAN SAVE as a great way to engage directly with our consumers at a local level and ensure that they can purchase their favourite yogurts at an affordable price.” (Sonia Sacadura, Proximity Controller at Danone Ltd)
